1984 - George Orwell I avoided school assigned books like the plague until this one...my sophomore year of high school. 1984 was a great experience that will always give me nightmares of rat helmets and big brother!
1984 - George Orwell Winston Smith works for the Ministry of Truth in London, chief city of Airstrip One. Big Brother stares out from every poster, the Thought Police uncover every act of betrayal. When Winston finds love with Julia, he discovers that life does not have to be dull and deadening, and awakens to new possibilities.
1984: George Orwell In a world controlled by a totalitarian government, constantly under the watchful eye of Big Brother, Winston Smith struggles against the oppression of free consciousness. He must commit the worst of all crimes, a Thoughtcrime, to continue his forbidden love affair with Julia in order to prove he has retained some of his humanity.
1984 ....George Orwell read it in high school, pushed through it for testing. Read it again last year it scared the living crap out of me. Great book. Great author.
1984 ....George Orwell read it in high school, pushed through it for testing. Read it again last year it scared the living crap out of me. I did the same thing. Wow..I really get it now what I didn't get as a teenager.
my favorite book!! "Thought Police." "Big Brother." "Orwellian." These words have entered our vocabulary because of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel, 1984. The story of one man's nightmare odyssey as he pursues a forbidden love affair through a world ruled by warring states and a power structure that controls not only information but also individual thought and memory, 1984 is a prophetic, haunting tale. Big brother is watching you!

George Orwell - Animal Farm ~ This was required reading at the high school I went to in Clio, Michigan... I have reread it several times throughout my 66 years... never thought we might actually have to live it one day, but I can't help but wonder these days, seems there are a lot of things being threatened about life today that were taken for granted when I first read this...
I reread this from time to time...makes me think about what Bubba would say if he could talk... George Orwell - Animal Farm

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. 2010 (#3). 2011 (#7). Reasons: insensitivity, offensive language, nudity, racism, religious viewpoint, sexually explicit. From the Banned Books list. On my books to read list.
I loved this book but totally understand why it's on the banned book list "Banned Book Week: Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. 2010 (#3). 2011 (#7). Reasons: insensitivity, offensive language, nudity, racism, religious viewpoint, sexually explicit."

I know that Brown Girl in the Ring and Brave New World have basically nothing in common except for that it takes place far into the future, but I couldn’t help but to think about those two together. I read Brave New World my senior year of high school (one of the few I actually read, I thought I so read a couple before I graduate) and it was actually my favorite book I read in high school. Pet Sematary is by far one of King's most disturbing novels, forcing readers to think about the unthinkable- the death of a small child. Many readers were appalled with this book and even King himself claimed that this was one story he'd rather soon forget, but I admire his insight into this taboo topic and how he turned what could have been a typical "zombie" tale into a thought provoking piece of horror. Just one more novel that proves King is the master of horror!
This was the first Novel I ever read that wasn't a school assignment. I have been hooked on books ever since. But no one holds a candle to reading books by Mr. King!

Frankenstein - Mary Shelley One of the greatest stories depicting the human need to love and to be loved.
In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, we see the heartbreaking tail of creature who is doomed to the worst possible fate: life without companionship. He pleads: "You must create a female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being."

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern was such a beautiful read about a circus that comes to town randomly and is open only from dusk to dawn. Also, Celia and Marco are swept up in a challenge where they are unsure of all the rules. . . Written with the most beautiful imagery, I literally want to start wearing only black and white with a red accent piece.
I love this book. Love.
