[ Molly Hunker and Greg Corso ] Floating Volume Installation for the Revolve Clothing Showroom in West Hollywood
Life Will Kill You by Greg Corso, Molly Hunker / Los Angeles, California / 2010 via postpost.co
life will kill you is a temporary installation for the Revolve Clothing showroom in west hollywood. to stand in contrast to the high-fashion clothing of the boutique, an everyday industrial material – the zip tie – is aggregated to create a floating volume that nestles below an existing soffit. the design is intended to explore the edge between aggression and elegance through material sensibility, overall form, and visual effect. the cloud-like volume is created by a double-sided surface c...

In a beautiful marriage of minimalism and maximalism, visual artist Carlos Amorales installs miniature black cut-outs of moths in shockingly massive numbers on plain white gallery walls. The installation, aptly titled “Black Cloud,” is visually stunning and meticulously arranged as tens of thousands of paper moths float effortlessly across the walls in various patterns and clusters.

Installation artist Carlos Amorales installs miniature black cut-outs of moths in massive numbers on plain white gallery walls, aptly titled “Black Cloud”.
In his installation Black Cloud, Mexican artist Carlos Amorales created a world that perfectly fuses downright gorgeous with rather frightening. Carlos crafted 30,000 moths of 36 different variations out of black paper and, with the aid of a team, hand glued them to every surface possible of a gallery space. The images above are of the piece installed at Yvon Lambert in 2007 but it was also re-imagined on the walls of a converted old church in Spain called Espacio AV in 2009.

DIY Zip Tie Lamp Shade! Gloucestershire Resource Centre http://www.grcltd.org/scrapstore/
Honestly I didnt pin this for the lamp, I pinned it for the starburst mirror in the margin.I wonder if I could make a cardboard star frame and do mercury 'rays' with a regular mirror in the middle?? Hmm, I may have to do this one This is made with zip ties! I know you can get bags of these @ Dollar Tree. What next? Sooo Cool! >>>How To: Make a Stylish DIY Zip Tie Lamp Shade!
I know the words "stylish" and "zip tie" don't often go together, but in the case of this DIY lamp shade I think they work mighty fine! I might even throw "quirky", "artsy", and "totally awesome" into the mix. Just sayin'. Inspired by a window display at her local Anthropologie, DIY enthusiast and blogger Courtney Schutz returned home with a plan. Using an old lampshade as a base, she created a new frame from chicken wire. Then, after spray painting a whole lot of zip ties, she set about attaching them one-by-one. I think the result is striking...

CLOUD by Caitlind r.c. Brown is a large-scale installation that can be made ‘stormy’ or ‘bright’ by pulling the strings to turn the lights on and off.

-Cloud made from 6,000 light-bulbs by Caitlind Brown. 'Cloud' was part of the nuit blanche all-night contemporary arts festival in Calgary, Canada. 'Cloud', a life-sized interactive light installation, engages the public to participate by standing beneath the structure and pulling lights on and off, creating the flickering aesthetic of an electrical cloud.
Caitlind Brown is an artist from Calgary, Alberta, who created this large-scale light installation named “Cloud” to be presented at the annual multi-city late-night arts festival (Nuit Blanche) in Calgary.

Cloud, a large-scale light installation by Calgary-based artist Caitlind Brown, is definitely a crowd pleaser at the annual multi-city late-night arts festival Nuit Blanche in Calgary this year. Created from steel, metal pull strings, and 6,000 light bulbs, Caitlind has reimagined waste into art by turning 5,000 donated burnt out incandescent bulbs into treasure (only one in every six light bulbs actually needs to glow)
CLOUD is a large-scale interactive installation by Calgary-based artist Caitlind Brown for the arts festival Nuit Blanche in Calgary. Created out of 6,000 donated burnt out light bulbs, CLOUD invites the viewer to wander through a rain of pull strings switching on and off lights. By manipulating the sculpture audiences will activate CLOUD’s inner sphere animating light bulbs and creating the illusion of lightning on the cloud’s surface.
Cloud is an installation piece from Calgary artist/filmmaker Caitlind Brown. The piece, part of the Nuit Blanche festival, involves 5,000 light bulbs, most of which are burnt out, that form a large cloud. Participants in the festival were able to pull on metal strings -rain- in order to illuminate sections of the “cloud”, giving off the impression of lightning. Imagine an entire landscape composed of lightbulbs- lightbulb sun, lightbulb trees, lightbulb mountains, etc. Lots of possibilities…
Calgary-based artist Caitlind r. c. Brown, in collaboration with multi-talented machinist, musician, and artist Wayne Garrett, built this surreal cloud for the contemporary art festival, Nuit Blanche Calgary. Formed out of more than 5,000 light bulbs, as well as metal pull-strings and steel, the sculpture hung overhead throughout the night as a fun and interactive public display. Visitors could wander below the structure, surrounded by hanging cords which activated the bulbs. They were just ...

Cloud in Church by Berndnaut Smilde - not photoshopped. this cloud was created inside an old church by controlling the humidity and pressure. coolest art installation ever!

Inspired by the window shopping experience at Holt Renfrew this season! An installation from Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde and yes, that is a real cloud! #MKM915 #berndnautsmilde #clouds
Whimsical and slightly cartoon-like, Smilde's indoor clouds floored the art world when his first installation appeared in 2010 and continue to amaze those who come across his photo series. By balancing temperature, humidity and lighting, Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde created a cloud in the middle of the room.
Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has created a installation where, by controlling the humidity and atmospheric pressure in a room, he can conjure up surreal clouds that float elegantly inside a room.
indoor clouds. Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde has developed a way to create a small, perfect white cloud in the middle of a room. It requires meticulous planning: the temperature, humidity and lighting all have to be just so.

Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde makes real clouds form inside of empty rooms! He uses a fog machine and carefully adjusts the temperature and humidity to produce clouds just long enough to photograph
Indoor Clouds - Dutuch artist, Berndnaut Smilde, figured out how to create real cloud formations indoors. By using a fog machine in exact and controlled temperature, humidity, and lighting, a cloud will appear in the middle of a room. Sadly, it only lasts a few moments. But I suppose that's all the time you need to take one unbelievable photo.

Spencer Finch, Sunlight in an Empty Room (Passing Cloud for Emily Dickinson) -Dimensions variable, 100 fluorescent lights, filters, clothespins. This work re-creates the effect of a passing cloud in Emily Dickinson’s back yard in Amherst, Massachusetts, based on an August afternoon. The bank of three types of fluorescents generates a simulation of the daylight, and the hanging filters of the “cloud” shift the color and intensity of the sunlight to replicate the shadow cast by a cloud.
