I love these kind of photos, they scare me though but they are just wonderful. The photo was taken in Greysville, Indiana. Very interesting study of hair-dos and clothing of these Depression Era children.

I loved my Grandpa! He was never too busy to swing on the porch swing with me. He took me often to the local park for rides and cotton candy. He bought me Cracker Jacks - a lot! (He liked them too:). He watched "Flipper" with me, and I watched "Lawrence Welk" with him. Soft-spoken, kind, and loving. This is to honor him.
I did this with Grandma!

Shelby Lee Adams is a great photographer. Phenomenal, and personally, I'm a fan. But, it really bugs me when I search "Appalachian photojournalism" and this is what I get. People who are unclothed, filthy, and usually toothless. This is why all of America sees us this way. This is all were allowing them to see.

In 1881, Laura Ingalls had her portrait taken with sisters Carrie and Mary -- perhaps just before Mary went away to the School for the Blind. It was the first photograph they sat for. Ma and Pa saw it as a treasure and a remembrance, the three girls together.
