Janis Joplin (1943-1970) Iconic American singer/songwriter of the 1960's. She had an unconventional lifestyle & rebellious beliefs which became accepted during the Beatnik & Hippie movements. She began her singing as a folk/blues singer in San Francisco, later performing at Woodstock in 1969. Died of Heroin overdose at the age of 27. Rolling Stone magazine listed her as on of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. She was known as "The Queen of Psychedelic Soul" & "The Queen of Rock & Roll"
