"Roll the Dice"; partners take turns rolling 1 die at a time and placing it in the box to represent the given digit. After all the dice are placed they read their (2 or 3) digit number aloud to their partner. Encourage stu- dents to use the talk card as they play the game. Whoever has the greater number earns a chip and the partners roll the dice again.
In our unit about plants, this pumpkin investigation could be utilized to teach students how to look at different types of plants. They would describe the outside, count how many lines there are, describe the inside, and count how many seeds there are. It would be a fun way to get students involved in plant observations.
