Homemade Caramel GOT THIS FROM A FRIEND..... Been doing this for years! My mother taught it to me! Unopened can of sweetened condensed milk + 3 hours on low (completely submerged in water) in the crock pot + cool down in the fridge = Caramel!

An easy way to make "dulce de leche": unopened can of sweetened condensed milk - 8 hours on low (completely submerged in water) in the crock pot - cool down in the fridge.

Boiled can of sweetened condensed milk turned to caramel...yum! Saw this on the Cooking Channel. Great Dipping sauce for apples!

How to make caramel from sweetened condensed milk. This is pretty interesting. And the photo is yummy looking. But two hours in a pot of boiling water...that is a long time. I can make caramel in about five minutes on the stove top. Anyway...it is interesting.

I've made this hundreds of times and never had the can explode. Others may make caramel in five minutes on the stove top with those awful hard caramels and milk but nothing comes close to the taste you get from the sweetened condensed milk.

warning: if you leave it too long in the boiling water it will explode. Crock pot is much safer

it took me days to get it all off the kitchen ceiling

I never buy the prepackaged caramels on the grocery shelves. I either make my caramel from organic sugar on the stove top with the addition of butter and cream. It is delicious. I also make a caramel using condensed milk which I love by the way. But I pour it from the can and add a few more ingredients and cook to about soft ball stage. That also is delicious.

Yeah, Sonya....that's how my mother used to make it! Ole School goodness :-)

Did you know you can make caramel in your crock pot?!

Caramel In A Can 1.You will need one un-opened can of sweetened condensed milk with the paper taken off. 2. Place the unopened can in a crock-pot. Completely submerge the unopened can in water. 3. Cook on the crock-pot's 'low' setting for 8 hours (lid on).   4.Cool down the unopened can in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Cooling the can is the key

Or you can bake it in the oven in a 2-3 inch water bath for 1 hour!

Pizza In a Crock Pot. We had this tonight and it was delish. I used an entire box of pasta rather than just 3 cups. Also used a cup less of cheese and there was still plenty on there. It was good!
