The pendant is a veil weight used by Tuareg women, who wrap themselves in graceful, long veils even when performing daily chores. Wealthy women attach a pendant like this to one corner, then sling it over a shoulder after arranging the hijab. The pendant holds her hijab in place, preventing its coming unfurled and getting in the way of her work, or blowing about in the desert winds.
This necklace style is very intriguing! It would be really lovely with silk ribbons and glass beads. Like, ooh, ribbons in shades of turquoise/aqua and white, with turquoise or turquoise-colored glass beads. Or even those clear glass beads with a colored center.
