Door ongelukkig noodlot werd Matisse ziek en kwam hij in een rolstoel terecht en zat hij in bed gekluisterd. Uren voor een schildersezel staan ging niet meer en Matisse zocht een nieuwe manier om zijn creatieve expressie te uiten. Vellen papier bestreek hij met verf. Hieruit knipte hij verschillende vormen en deze composeerde hij tot een (voor hem) mooi geheel. Hierna plakte hij ze vast en zijn nieuwe manier van kunstmaken was geboren. Matisse schilderde met schaar en lijm. T/m 16 augustus 2015 in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
