As with all widow spiders, only the female of the species is considered dangerous. The much smaller male is considered harmless. Western Black Widow spiders are nocturnal, which means they are active during the nighttime. They spend most of their time hanging "upside down" in their web, which often makes the hourglass marking immediately visible. Western Black Widow spiders are typically not aggressive, and bite as a defensive measure when they are attacked or feel threatened.
Try these around the pool, or anytime a wasp's nest springs up in an inconvenient location. Fill a container with vinegar, sugar, and salt in equal parts. The smell will draw the wasps in, and once they've fallen in -- they won't get out! Great all-natural alternative to insecticides!
GOOD TO KNOW! Tick Removal: A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tickwith the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. Please pass on.
