such a cute and simple idea. Ornaments placed over a large knitting needle - top ornament ring is removed and placed down over the top of the needle. Stands on any base - use shiny new ornaments, vintage ornaments or all those homemade kids ornaments. Very cool

Paper trees. Unfortunately the link does not go to the directions for this, but they look pretty easy - decorate paper cones or use scrapbook paper, snip them around the bottom, and string together.
