unscramble the grid and redraw

Great Family Project! Grid drawing with kids- it's so fun to see how excited they get with their results. From Artchoo! (Jeanette Nyberg)

Great intro lesson to drawing with grids ! It can help to label letters on top (A,B,C...) and numbers on the side(1,2,3) and have them work block per block (example "let us all draw what is in block C3"). If students are having a hard time, have them use scrap paper to "block" areas of image and look at only one section at a time when drawing.

Grid Drawing Exercise. How to draw and enlarge with a grid.

Awesome sub plan art exercise - the image it ends up with is pretty fantastic and tricky!

you could make your own using this idea by taking a black and white image and chopping it up rearranging it and gluing it down with numbers on for kids to re draw onto the grid. then you'd know exactly what the image was supposed to look like :)

I did it myself and was bummed out by the result.

Not abstract. The drawing is upside down. It is the profile of a mans face.

I must actually try it myself!

This is a page from a book by Lee Hammonds. Her other books have similar practice pages.

Drawing activity to teach the grid method. Requires a 9x7 - 1 inch grid. Could be used for a sub lesson. (source?)

Do your students need a little work with value before they embark on a shaded drawing? Value Grids are an effective tool to give them some practice.
