Shadow of Night, the second novel in the excellent All Souls Trilogy series by Deborah Harkness [Penguin]. Amazon Best Books of the Month, July 2012, I paid full price for both this and the first in the series (A Discovery of Witches) and will have to get The Book of Life when it comes out in July 2014.

Shadow of Night: A Novel (All Souls Trilogy) - The 2nd book in the trilogy. Not nearly as good as the first, but worth reading all the same.

Just finished... AMAZING! Like an adult "Twilight" just more historical. Many plots line and every moment is exciting.
