Shakespeare & Company Bookshop in Paris- I made a second trip to Paris when someone I met in Dublin told me the history of SnC, and their hospitality to writers. I found myself unexpectedly tongue-tied when George Whitman, the proprietor, looked up at me, remarked, "You must be a writer," then asked, "How long will you be staying with us?" It mingles with other important moments in my life in a room full of treasures. When I learned of George Whitman's passing, I fled to that room.
Public Garden: Covered Courtyard at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (gardnermuseum.org) in Boston, MA, USA -- When I lived in Boston in the '90s, I seem to remember that you didn't have to pay admission to visit the courtyard. I don't know if this is still the case.
