You'd be forgiven for thinking that the bright blue decorations on traditional Chinese jewellery are enamel or metal work. However, historically, these were in fact made with tiny kingfisher feathers - and I mean TINY, having seen some similar pieces in person! The effect looks almost like silk embroidery and is a testament to the amount of craftsmanship that went into these pieces.
