Andrew Johnson (1808-1875) was the 17th president of the United States.   He was Abraham Lincoln's vice-president, and became president after Lincoln was assassinated in 1865. Johnson was the only US president who never went to school; he was self-taught.Johnson authorized the purchase of Alaska from Russia. He was impeached in 1868, but not convicted.
