Angkor Wat, Cambodia. Angkor Wat, or “City of Temples,” is a significant religious center in Southeast Asia and is often thought of as a symbol of Cambodia. Beyond its architecture, the mossy residue and overgrown vines give it an ancient appeal, hiding centuries of historical memories.

How cool is this? Inspiring environment for #MiniandaJanes -- "Koh Ker, Cambodia. Temple in Prasat Pram made of brick is spectacularly clothed in tree roots of the strangler fig. This parasitic tree usually feeds off the tree and eventually kills its host. On this occasion the roots of the fig are both destroyer and scaffolding giving support to the loosened brickwork of the left hand tower."

About 8KM from downtown of Zhangjiajie lies the Tianmen Mountain, also known as Heaven Gate Mountain. It is approximately 7 mile hike and climb to Heaven's Gate. There is a Temple that is 500 years old at the top. This is worth the day trip to Zhangjiajie. My favorite place I've seen in China!!

Heaven's Gate Stairs ,Tian Men Shan China. Tianmen (“Heavenly Gate”) Mountain National Forest Park lies only 8 kilometers south of the city of Zhangjiajie.Being situated immediately next door to the city of Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain has traditionally been perceived by the residents of Zhangjiajie as the very soul of the city, even if the Zhangjiajie area in general has in more recent years become much more strongly identified, at least by outsiders, with the strangely eroded block-and-obelisk landscapes of Wulingyuan Scenic Area.

They've also unearthed officials, strongmen, acrobats and musicians. These date back to the late third century B.C. to protect the emperor in the afterlife.

The Terracotta Army, Xi'an, China.
The Terracotta Army, XI`an, China. They were originally sculptured and set out in battle formation ( rows of 4, interspersed with horses and chariots) and between the rows of warriors the earth mounds supported the timber roor. Over the years since they were first made ( about 2200 years) they have been vandalised and burnt as the Dynasties fell, then the timber roof failed and earth filled the trenches, hiding the Army until they were discovered in 1974. At the front of the display are the soldiers who have been reconstructed, but as you look further down the line you are able to see the broken remains of other warriors who have not yet been put back together. At the rear of the building called Pit 1, the "doctors" slowly re-form the terracotta warriors, then try to place them back in the same position that they were discovered.
Ancient temple- Angkor Wat, Cambodia: So beautiful. It would be hard to not have a spiritual experience in visiting a place like this.
Just so amazing. Watched documentaries on what it took to make this amazing place and it is still standing. The engineering and craftmanship is unrivalled
Angkor Wat... also on the bucket list. There's an option to get to certain places here on elephant...which is quite handy as elephants are my favorite creature.
Angkor Wat I've always had a fascination for ancient temples, and those at the Angkor Wat complex in Cambodia drew me in from the instant I started reading about them in National Geographic. Another pulling factor is the fact that I know so little about the culture; the mystery and foreignness of it all is captivating.
