“Homegrown” Green Onions Several weeks ago I saw this photo on Pinterest. The pinner CLAIMED they’d grown them from some green onion ends they’d simply submerged in water. No way. That can’t possibly be true. As a matter of fact….I’ll PROVE it!
Each time you crack an egg open, instead of tossing the shell into the trash, drop it into an open container that you keep in the fridge. (I’ve always saved my shells, but my friend Susan suggested keeping them in the fridge – works beautifully.) When the container is full, crush the shells into small bits and sprinkle them around the base of your plants. The sharp eggshells will deter slugs, snails, and other bugs from nibbling on your garden and add a touch of calcium to the soil
Great idea! The next time you have green onions, don't throw away the white ends. Simply submerge them in a glass of water and place them in a sunny window. Your onions will begin to grow almost immediately and can be harvested almost indefinitely. We just use kitchen scissors to cut what we need for meals. I periodically empty out the water, rinse the roots off and give them fresh water.
Indoor Tulips . . . Step 1 - Fill a glass container about 1/3 of the way with glass marbles or decorative rocks. Clear glass will enable you to watch the roots develop . . . Step 2 - Set the tulip bulb on top of the marbles or stones; pointed end UP. Add a few more marbles or rocks so that the tulip bulb is surrounded but not covered (think support). . .Step 3 - Pour fresh water into the container. The water shouldn't touch the bulb, but it should be very close, so that the roots will grow…
