Woolworth's-America's Christmas Store Here’s a busy scene at the downtown Houston, Texas Woolworth store, from 1964.
Woolworth 1964. When mom took us shopping, we would sometimes have lunch at the Woolworth lunch counter. They also had a great candy counter with bulk candy (mmmm chocolate stars!) I too liked eating there. Didn't even know as a child that black people were not allowed to eat there with us. That was sad.
Woolworth 1964. I worked downtown then and would sometimes have lunch at the Woolworth lunch counter. They also had a great candy counter with bulk candy Nana
Woolworth 1964- Mom would walk each one of us downtown for a school shopping trip, and then we'd stop in Woolworth for a hamburg , fries, & cherry coke ( I mean the REAL cherry Cokes ! )

45 RPM records with a stacker - remember the hours and fun!
1970, 45 Rpm, Baby Boomer
45 RPM records with a stacker = big time! I've still got a slew of 45 records and a record player to play them on.
45 rpm records 'stacked' waiting their turn to play via the Auto Changer. #music #recordplayer #records #vinyl #turntable #audio http://www.pinterest.com/TheHitman14/for-the-record/
Stacking 45 rpm records. We could also stack multiple LP records (albums) on our record player--it was nice not to have to get up all the time to switch out the records!
If you remember the 45 RPM record player, you probably were a child of the 1950's!! What an era that was for Rock & Roll music. This brings back so many memories for so many. You could put a stack of 45's on there and dance for quite a while before you flipped the stack!! 45's cost only about a dollar back then, and many people owned scores of them!
45 RPM records with a stacker. I can remember playing Elvis's 45 called "If I Can Dream" over and over again on my record player. I think the flip side was "In the Ghetto". My sister and I had to share the player. She'd have it in her room for a week and then I'd get to have it for a week.
45 RPM records played by the stack. A little removable piece hooked on the record player to play 45's. We would stack 6 at a time.

I remember this was the 1st thing I got drunk on when I turned 18 (and then the turds upped the age to 21 about 6 months or so later ... grrrrr ... waited all that time and then allowed to drink for a few months and then had to wait ANOTHER 3 years ... lol) Boone Farms Apple Wine ruled the 70s! My curfew was lightning bugs (or Street lights). My parents didn't call my cell, they yelled my name. I played outside, not online. If I didn't eat what Mom cooked, I didn't eat.
. Diner was ready when I heard the cow bell ring. When I visited my great grandmom (aka Nana), bedtime was when the street light came on - ugh...7/8ish! The good ole days :)
So true! I miss lightning bugs :) That was the good ole days! I sure do miss those days!

1950s menu from Woolworth's lunch counter featuring Coca-Cola, Coke ad / If you're too young to remember Woolworth's, then you're too young to remember the wafting aroma of the hamster cages. They were in the pet department in the back of Woolworth's stores, along with goldfish and those little pet turtles that are illegal now. It was one of the most comforting, welcome smells of my childhood. You kids don't know what you're missing.
Menu from Woolworths Lunch Counter....always liked the soda fountain during the 50s and 60s.

Drive-In Reminiscing I saw this picture going around Facebook - does anyone remember these? Well, as a child of the 60’s and 70’s, I sure do!! In fact, I’m lucky to live near a place where these are still being used – the Drive-In movie theater. The antique looking speakers are still in position at one of the few drive-in theaters we have left in Minnesota.

Row of Phone Booths
College Dorm, Cell Phone, Vintage Phone, Telephone Booth, Phonebooth
Phone Booths. You could actually sit down, close the door, and, for only a dime, make a phone call in complete privacy. They were pretty cool. Cell phones changed everything.
Phone Booths - There was just "something" about a telephone booth. You could shut the door, have a seat and make a phone call in peace, comfort and privacy. And you could actually hear the other person on the other end of the line perfectly, and you didn't have to shout into it to be heard over the street noise.
Row of Phone Booths; in the 70's I was a telephone operator and we always knew that when a phone with the first number of the four 555-9000 started with a nine, it was a payphone. We had a button we could push to return the callers quarter back to them.
Row of Phone Booths. We still have a few phone booths in the hallway at school. The phone is gone and we store the vacuum there--although once I saw a student sitting there using their cell phone. ironic.
Row of Phone Booths: Someone showed me what a small slit in the cord and a little spit could do for a free phone call.

Fotomat - drive through and drop off film to be developed. There were a few of these in my town that had closed but still stood there, logos removed and covered in graffiti...so went the 1970's.
Fotomat booths. I remember my parents going to these to drop off film and pick up pictures. Most had gone away by the mid-Eighties, remaining empty and tempting young drivers to speed toward them in parking lots.
Yes. We had to wait days to get pictures developed and then immediately pulled into the parking lot to look through them... without putting fingerprints all over them... and had to order reprints from the numbers on the negatives! Haha!!
Fotomat was a large chain of freestanding "one-day" film development stores, usually found in the middle of parking lots of shopping centers around the country. The first store opened in 1965, and the whole chain was out of business by 2002. Digital killed the Kodachrome star.

Master Charge - Before it was Master Card. I didn't have a credit card when I was a kid but I did notice the name changed.
It was "Master Charge" cards, not Master Card & they ran them through a machine to get the imprint of the cards raised numbers & info.
Remember when Master Card was called Master Charge and Visa was Shoppers Charge, took years to remember the new names!
I was fascinated by the old school credit card imprinter, the little book they checked your card against and the cool girls who glued a small seed bead to the 5 on the register buttons.
