      Reykjavik, Iceland, Lutheran Church. The State Architect G. Samuelsson's design of the church was commis-sioned in 1937. He is said to have designed it to resemble the basalt lava flows of Iceland's landscape and is 244 feet high. It took 38 years to build the church.       I think this is a really unusual building … particularly considering it’s a church. It took an amazing 38 years to complete and was named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (author of the Passion Hymns). The architect Guðjón Samúelsson’s designed the church in 1937 and created it to represent the basalt lava flows of Iceland’s landscape.
