The House of Hohenzollern is a noble family and royal dynasty of electors, kings, and emperors of Prussia, Germany, and Romania. It originated in the area around the town of Hechingen in Swabia during the 11th century. They took their name from their ancestral home, the Burg Hohenzollern castle near Hechingen.
Prince Oskar of Prussia (1888--1958), 5th son of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Oskar served with distinction in WWI, receiving the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class and 2 Wound Badges. After his family lost power in 1918, Oskar, like his brothers, supported Hitler in hopes of a restoration, but later opposed the Nazis. Prince Oskar married and had 4 children. He died of cancer in 1958.
