"Why I Will Never Use a Behavior Chart Again" I haven't used my behaviour chart this year as I wasn't convinced it was the right thing for 4 year olds, this confirms my thoughts. I use stickers to encourage positive behaviours so i can easily differentiate this for each child to give them all encouragement.
"Take a Break" space. This is not a traditional "Time Out". This is a place in the classroom where children can take a moment to decompress, take a breather, or think about making different choices. The students often go there on their own, but sometimes are asked to go there by the teacher. The student will only stay there for about 1 or 2 minutes and
All of my ECE teachers need to read this! This is a must for building classroom community (aka classroom management). As though the words came from my mouth! Hooray for this ECE educator for questioning the status quo! Teaching in Progress: Why You Should Never Use a Behavior Chart Again
Teaching in Progress: Why I Will Never Use a Behavior Chart Again- Good post as to why clip charts may not be the best behavior management system for your classroom. Suggestion of 2 other methods (but doesn't really go into detail on how to implement them or effectively utilize them)
One teacher's rationale for taking behavior charts (clip charts, card charts) out of her repertoire.

Group work trick: Each student writes their own answer on a post-it, they bring the answers together and write a group answer in the center. Upper grades- someday #groupwork
Four corners post-its, one from each student, then they create the best answer in the center. Great group activity.
Four corners post-its, one from each student, then they create the best answer in the center. They could do something where they work on a math problem and then decide which is the best or correct approach and why. Would be great for small group discussions over classroom novels or short stories.
Four students work individually on a math problem (yellow stickies). Then they compare answers and write the best answer in the center (a compilation of all ideas)
This is a good idea to make sure students are all adding their own ideas and participating in group work. Students write their ideas on sticky notes and then answer as a group in the middle. An alternate to think pair share.
Hand out stickies in several colors. Kids write answer. Find other students with same color sticky. Create a best answer from all ideas and write in middle. Runde's Room: Five For Friday - Test Prep and Angry Birds
