Milliken installed 40,000 square meters of Global Express Three in the CCTV headquarters building - located in Beijing - earlier this month. The main building is not a traditional tower, but a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections covering 473,000 m2 of floor space and creating an irregular grid on the building's facade with an open center.
The collaboration between OMA (architects) and Arup (engineers) on the CCTV HQ project was fascinating to me. Unlike many other engineering firms, Arup is known for their dedication and creative problem-solving skills. In this case they worked with OMA to devise the most efficient structure that would not only protect against high intensity earthquakes but also serve as ornament and visually represent the stresses being experienced by this interesting loop form.
8House, located in Southern Ørestad. The apartments are placed at the top, while commercial offices at the base of the building. The horizontal layers have achieved a quality of their own. The apartments benefit from sunlight, fresh air and a spectacular view, while the commercial space merges with life on the street
