Que vejamos a tudo ao contrário do que nos acostumamos. Se tudo está invertido, se estou de dentro para fora, ponta cabeça ou cabeça pra baixo... quanto de mim pode libertar-se? I should have been terrified of him, but I felt calm, like I knew he would never hurt me. "I wouldn't be so sure of that, sweetheart," my kidnapper says. "Of what?" I ask, looking around the dark room. "That I wouldn't hurt you." "You wouldn't." I mumble. I am pushed against a wall, his body pressed against mine. Ice cold fingers wrap around my wrists and pin them to the wall above my head. "I'd watch your mouth," he answers.

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers; thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance, risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

SHADOW Interesting idea, that we think all books involving a host of black people must be about race. True, and I'd never realized it. ("Hustle" by Jericho Brown ... or was his birth name Nelson Demery?)
