"Perseus slaying Medusa" by Thomas Louis

Perseus Slaying Medusa by Laurent-Honoré Marqueste, France, 1876.

A sculpture by Antonio Canova depicting Eros reviving Psyche, who was put to sleep forever by inhaling a magic perfume. 1793. Louvre, Paris. I remember my art history professor saying this sculpture is more powerful because their lips are NOT touching! The energy created in that space is electrifying!

Marble Statue at the Louvre but I don’t know who the artist is. If anyone does, then please let me know. Thank you. - EK

Pieta, Michelangelo. So lovely. On May 21, 1972, a mentally disturbed man walked into the chapel and attacked the sculpture with a geologist's hammer while shouting "I am Jesus Christ." Onlookers took many of the pieces of marble that flew off. Later, some pieces were returned, but many were not, including Mary's nose, which had to be reconstructed from a block cut out of her back.
