DNA's discoverer Francis Crick's handwritten note tells his 12-year-old son that he and his colleague Jim Watson had "probably" made a "most important discovery." Dr Crick wrote: "We have built a model for the structure of des-oxy-ribose-nucleic-acid, (read it carefully) called DNA for short. In other words we think we have found the basic copying mechanism by which life comes from life." The note, which is dated March 19 1953, is expected to sell for 1.3 million pounds in New York.
