Henry Harley "Hap" Arnold (June 25, 1886 – January 15, 1950) was one of Arthur Welsh's students. He held the grades of General of the Army and later General of the Air Force. Arnold was an aviation pioneer, Chief of the Air Corps (1938–1941), Commanding General of the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, the only Air Force general to hold five-star rank, and the only person to hold a five-star rank in two different U.S. military services.

Peter Ortiz (né Pierre Ortiz) (1913-88) COL USMC 42-45 WW II. A U.S. citizen, joined the French Foreign Legion (32-35/39-40) rising to Lt. Served in OSS. Jumped behind enemy lines to become French resistance leader. In Lyons he heard Germans insult the USMC & held gun to their heads til they joined in toast to Marines, & then managed to escape. Earned Navy Cross 2, Purple Heart 2, Legion of Merit, OBE, Croix de Guerre 5. Not well remembered but in “Rio Grande” (‘50) and “Wings of Eagles”…

Gene Autry (1907-1998). U.S. Army Air Force WW II. Enlisted 1942. As a pilot and Technical Sgt. he ferried fuel, ammunition, and arms in the China-India-Burma theater of war flying over the hazardous Himalayan air route, "The Hump." He also volunteered his talents as an entertainer for numerous Air Force shows. He had his own radio show entitled "Sargeant Gene Autry." When the war ended, he was reassigned to Special Services where he toured with a USO troupe in the South Pacific until 1946.
