This little girl is holding a LEGO set. The LEGOs are not pink or "made for girls." She isn't even wearing pink. The copy is about "younger children" who "build for fun." Not just "girls" who build. ALL KIDS. In an age when little girls and boys are treated as though they are two entirely different species by toy marketers, this 1981 ad for LEGO --

What it is is beautiful. I love this ad! Wish marketing for children's toys were this gender neutral nowadays.
Vintage ad from Lego. I love both the image and the advertising blurb. Unfortunately Lego's recent efforts to market to girls have turned to stereotypes--pink and purple legos, kits for dance shows and shopping. I much prefer the old gender neutral Lego campaign!
We all know that kid’s toys are intensely gender-segregated. And it’s not just “trucks are for boys, dolls are for girls,” either. From toy marketing to color choices, gender neutrality doesn’t play
1981 Lego ad Not only are legos amazing, but this gender neutral ad for legos is pretty amazing too. Also, the story of my young life.
The Little Girl from the 1981 LEGO Ad is All Grown Up, and She’s Got Something to Say! Click on the picture to read more and see the little girl all grown up in a recreation of the ad. #lego #girls #1980s #marketing
1980s LEGO ad. A perfect example of why the current LEGO Friends sets are totally unnecessary.
1981 LEGO AD I want to teach my children there are no "boy" toys and "girl" toys.

The True Story of Smokey Bear Original Comic Book: published 1969. Although the symbol predated him, the burned cub clinging to a charred tree rescued from a forest fire in 1950 was named Smokey and became a celebrity, living out his life at the National Zoo in Washington DC. "Remember: only YOU can prevent forest fires."

Remember those good ol' days of holding on for dear life as this death-trap was spun at hurdling speeds towards ever impending doom? Yeah, those were good times. I got trapped under one as a kid.

Ice Cream Man! I have really special memories of my 'Good Humor' man.....
Check out this old time ice cream truck! They didn't even have a window for the server. He had to get out of the truck and individually hand the children their ice creams. :) #icecream #icecreamtruck #love #truelove #oldschool
My dad was a Good Humor Ice Cream man and i remember one time he let me ride along with him and man oh man did i feel on top of the world, i felt like the luckies kid ever. I sat in the front on the metal compartment where the passenger seat should be. This was by far a special dear memory. What i wouldn't give for a picture of that day. Every time i see an old GH pic I wish it was that fun day captured on film that I can cherish forever.

The Los Angeles Theater was used for the premiere of George Valentin’s final flop. Maybe it is an apropos choice too, as its grand opening in 1931 hosted the premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights”. Chaplin and his films were cited by “The Artist” director Michel Hazanavicius as inspirations.
