At the age of 11, this young girl, Ellen, was ordered to do 7 days hard labor after being convicted of stealing iron when caught with Mary Catherine Docherty, Rosanna Watson and Mary Hinnigan. These photographs are of convicted criminals in Newcastle, England between 1871 - 1873.
This rare, early photo of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan was discovered in 2008, by a staff member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society who was going through a large photography collection that was recenty donated. It is the earliest photo of Helen with her teacher and the only known photo of Helen with one of her dolls which were important in her education.
