The Hobbit or There and Back Again-- by JRR Tolkien. When the movie came out I became interested in the tale. It is a fun children's book but doesn't have the depth of language or symbolism that Lord of the Rings has. While it is enjoyable, this is more a side dish than the real main course. It is apparent where Tolkien developed his ideas for Lord of the Rings from this book. It was also interesting that Gollum played such a small part here, but was so richly developed in the trillogy.

'Oliver Twist' written by Charles Dickens. The classic story of an orphan boy who runs off to London and falls into cahoots with a group of thieves. Longer, more involved and a bit darker than all the movie adaptations, this book will make you cry and smile. I wouldn't have anyone under junior or senior year of high school try to read it, the language is kinda thick.

The Pact: Okay, I cried for many chapters throughout this book, then cried when it was done. If you want a dramatic, heart-wrenching story almost guaranteed to make you cry, pick up one of Jodi Picoult's books.
If you want to cry, and gasp out loud, and just...feel everything at once. The Pact by: Jodi Picoult ^well put, my all time favorite book, EVER!
The Pact. This was the first Jodi Picoult book I ever read. I really enjoyed her style and this book was so moving. I sobbed while reading this, and I am not a crier. I've had to take a break from Picoult (because her books have become too predictable to me), but this one is still my favorite of hers.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte was probably the most depressing romance novel I have ever read! The only 2 characters I truly liked was Ellen Dean and the narrator, besides that, each character was so obviously flawed; possibly excepting Joseph. I truly enjoyed the book and I would recommend watching it before the movie, I've only seen the version from the 50s? but it led my expectations astry. . . .so read the book first!
