New Lodge, Windsor - Conveniently close to Windsor Castle, New Lodge was built to entertain the royal hunting parties. One of seven forest lodges, it remained in royal hands until 1834 when Princess Sophie Mathilda of Gloucester & Edinburgh sold the estate, which king George III had granted her. However, it kept its royal links well into the 19th century, as Queen Victoria & her children visited it regularly & story has it that they planted the magnificent trees down the driveway.
