Turquoise Cicada-Happy are the cicadas, since their wives are mute, wrote one day some macho writer at the beginning of an entomology book. Yes, among the cicadas, only the males sing, or better screech to be more correct. They can all together produce sounds as strong as a subway train entering a station, or a child yelling, or working of a pneumatic drill. At 90 decibels, their song competes with a lawn mower. That is not at all exaggeration.

Cicada..... who knew that the sounds that drones us (who live in the right areas of the world) to sleep on hot summer nights, came from a very iridescent bug, (the only evidence is an outgrown, crinkly, kind of ugly, brown outer shell that it leaves behind)???

The unidentified planthopper, which is only 5 millimeters long, was found in the Suriname rainforest by ecologists who discovered 60 new species on a research expedition last year. The bug's wild "hairdo" is actually waxy secretions from its abdomen that are thought to be a defense mechanism to distract predators.

This troll-haired insect was found in the Suriname rainforest and is only 5 millimeters long. Its 'hair' are actually waxy secretions that could be a defense mechanism to distract predators.
My first question when I saw this was "Is It For Real!" - apparently so - Expedition to Southeast Suriname Uncovers 60 New Species — and Untold Natural Wealth, Dr. Trond Larsen A juvenile planthopper (only about 5 millimeters long) was among the species not new to science that was documented on this expedition.

New species,A strange new species of plant hoppers, or insects that hop like grasshoppers from plant to plant, with a distinct tuft of white hair was discovered this year, and has yet to be named. It measures about 5 millimeters long and was discovered by scientists in south Suriname. The team not only stumbled upon this magnificent insect, but also 60 new species that they believe are new science.

juvenile planthopper (only about 5 millimeters long). Many planthopper species exude waxy secretions from the abdomen, which sometimes form long strands like those seen in this photo. These strands may provide protection from predators — it could be that they fool a predator into attacking the wrong part of the insect, and the wax breaks off while the insect jumps to safety. Metallic Beetle, Christmas Beetle
These metallic beetles are found in Costa Rica. Insect Collectors pay a high price for these little guys. They are amazing.
Buprestidae is a family of beetles, known as jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles because of their glossy iridescent colors. The family is among the largest of the beetles, with some 15,000 species known in 450 genera. Feather & Wings of any Kind Keka❤❤❤

Mettalic Wasp aka cuckoo wasps, the hymenopteran family Chrysididae is a very large cosmopolitan group (over 3000 described species) of parasitoid or cleptoparasitic wasps, often highly sculptured, with brilliantly colored metallic-like bodies (thus the common names jewel wasp, gold wasp, or emerald wasp are sometimes used). They are most diverse in desert regions of the world, as they are typically associated with solitary bee and wasp species, which are also most diverse in such areas.

Praying Mantis, Mantodea (or mantises, mantes) is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 valid species. The English common name for any species in the order is "praying mantis", because of the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe and other regions, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa.

Fornasinius_russus Fornasinius russus is native to an area from Lake Victoria west to the western coast of Africa. The reddish brown color and the unusual horn help identify this rarther rare beetle. Large examples can be almost 7.0 cm long. However, most examples appear to be about 5.5 cm in total length. The red color will help identify this beetle
