Great tip!!!! Buy tablecloths to use as draperies....much less expensive, already hemmed, meant to launder often, and many patterns and colors available! 60x84 or buy 60x104 so you can hem them AND still have matching fabric left over for pillows or other coordinating pieces!...what?! seriously...
I photocopied a swirly pattern (stock photo) onto a transparency, and using an overhead projector, blasted the image up onto the wall painted with flat or eggshell paint. I traced it with a pencil and then painted the stencil with the same color paint in high gloss. Could use a glossy polyurethane, too.
Shower curtains and ribbon for curtains...good idea since curtains can be so expensive! I have also used shower rods on the inside of my big windows instead of buying curtain rods, they are so expensive!
To paint over ANY surface, without sanding, use a product called 'ESP Easy Surface Prep', available at hardware and paint shops. Wipe on, wipe off and paint in 90 minutes. Works well over enamel paint , without having to sand. SAVES HOURS of work. It was recommended to me by a professional painter.
