This is Ouro Preto, meaning Black Gold in Portuguese. It is located in the state of Minas Gerais. In the 1700's, under Portuguese rule, Ouro Preto had an enormous gold rush. The city is protected due to its large amount of Baroque architecture. Today it is a tourist town which still mines aluminum, manganese and marble. Photo from Saffron and Silk.
The bell tower of The Santo Antônio do Rio Abaixo Main Church, in the Alcino Quintão Square, Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Perhaps nowhere else in Minas do the colonial charm and picturesque natural setting blend so harmoniously as in Tiradentes. Quaint historic houses, fringed by exuberant wildflowers, stand out against a backdrop of pretty blue mountains threaded with hiking trails.
