1938 Disney Rejection Letter to a woman being told that creative jobs at Disney "only go to young men." I find the evil witch picture under the signature wholly appropriate.
1938 | A rejection letter from Walt Disney Productions | “Women do not do any of the creative work…”
Disney Rejection Letter, 1938. This letter clearly demonstrates the attitude toward women during the 30s. Apparently we can not be as good of artists as men. We can only copy what men do. Wow.
No girls allowed, Walt Disney Productions, 1938 “Women do not do any of the creative work in connection with preparing the cartoons for the screen, as that work is performed entirely by young men. For this reason, girls are not considered for the training school…” Jezebel is featuring this lovely rejection letter on its website today. You can find the original on Flickr, posted by Kevin Burg, grandson of Miss Mary Ford, the artist who was so soundly rejected by Disney Studios for being a female.
What is a "Family"? (click thru for analysis)
Same Gender Families, Scly1 Families, Pictures
What is a "Family"? Most people would describe a nuclear family. Ask an adoptee. A child with a single mother or father. You'll get some interesting answers.
This is a social construction of gender hetetosexual. Here is a picture of the husband, wife, child and a baby in the carriage. The husband and wife are loving that is why they had babies. One that loves one another, wants to be apart of ones life by creating new lives together. So that that child has a piece of the mother and dad.
This picture is disgustingly accurate representation of heteronormativity. This picture says that families can park there, but what about two dads with a baby? Is that not a family? For me, this picture represents a large issue at hand of signs. On the sign to the family bathroom door, it's usually something similar to this. Additionally, most bathrooms nowadays are still labeled male and female. That leaves a large gray area for a lot of people.
I saw something similar to this on google while I was attempting to find things to post this week. This leads me into thinking of all the parking lots I've been in that support family parking and what a "family" actually is. Growing up for me, my friends were more of a family to me than my own parents but there wasn't parking at the front of the lot for a group of teenagers financially and emotionally supporting each other. Really leads me into the thoughts of what a "family" truly is.

Where is the sign for same-gender families?

Re-Thinking the Famous Dolce and Gabbana Gang Rape Ad (click thru for analysis)..Women portrayed as a piece of meat for men to enjoy.... once again, how can anybody buy products from a company that uses advertising like this? Sick and pathetic.
Dolce & Gabbana found themselves in trouble once again when they released a subtly violent gay-themed ad in 2007. The racy menswear ad was seen as moody, disturbing and incredibly aggressive. Victims' rights groups felt that the image was definitely signifying a menacing and violent situation.

In October 2010, Australia's Advertising Standards Bureau ordered that the Calvin Klein billboards that featured Lara Stone be taken down after complaints that the image suggested violence against women. The Advertising Standards Bureau declared that the Calvin Klein's ad glamorized rape and violence and was "demeaning to women by suggesting that she is a plaything of these men".

Calvin Klein's racy ad depicting a nearly naked Lara Stone being straddled and held by the hair was banned in Australia, with officials stating they were concerned it sent the wrong messages about rape and violence. Over time body image has changed and so has our toys, the 90s ideal body was significantly bigger than the now 2014 bodies. We need to stop kidding ourselves and see that only a few percent can have the body that the toy barbie dose. END THE BODY IMAGE STEREOTYPES FOR WOMEN.
Disturbing. But I do believe 90's barbies actually came with heads. (So this isn't funny, but the previous comment definitely is.)
90s vs 00s barbie. wow, this is great. I knew they revamped her, but they did a good job! I wish I grew up with the 2000's barbie! far more realistic.
Barbie standards....tbh 00's barbie looks a little better proportioned.... not that im saying she is an acurate shape for a REAL PERSON. Just WTF the 90s..... NOONEs boobs looked like that....ever!
Barbie (Shame the 90's doll doesn't have a head to show how they enlarged Barbie's head since the 90's.) That's also a 2010's instead of a 2000's doll. (You can tell because of the thing underwear molded on.)
Barbie, one of the most popular brands for young girls, is becoming increasingly thinner and bustier. However, it is still keeping the same unrealistic and unhealthy ideal for body image.

It’s a little known fact that the swastika, famously appropriated and perverted by the Nazis, is (or was) a symbol of good luck. Dating back to the Neolithic period, the symbol was frequently included in greetings and used as decoration. A 1917 ad for swastika jewelry, for example, called the symbol the “oldest cross” and explained it like this: “To the wearer of swastika will come from the four winds of heaven good luck, long life and prosperity.”

WHITE PRIVILEGE: “FLESH-COLORED”...anyone ever notice that? All "flesh" colored products are white flesh colored. It's effed up if you ask me.
When a company comes out with a product, there is a lot of thought behind the name and their slogan. So when they come up with "skin colored" they had probably put a lot of thought into it. When someone refers to a "skin colored" band aid, they are refering to the skin tone of a white person. that alone makes white people seem like they have privileges over people of color.
White Privilege: “Flesh-Colored” » Sociological Images Heard this just the other day "use the skin coloured (i.e. cream/beige) paper"...<
Ah, flesh colored? So then, we should expect to find many different shades of human skin tones in the box, right? We still have a ways to go with marketing in this area.
I never thought before about the band-aid concept. Maybe that was because they don't match my skin color either. I'm really white skinned - not fleshy, beige colored.
This is one picture that came up in my search on google when I typed in "flesh colored." Though the ad is old, the semantics still ring true today.
I love this. Instead of calling it "white privilege" (since privilege is such a loaded term) if we call it "intangible benefits you didn't even know you had"---well, its less scary and accusatory!
