Carpenteria californica 'Elizabeth' Elizabeth Bush Anemone. Standing 6'-7' tall, 'Elizabeth' has pure, white, fragrant flowers and is an attractive multi-stemmed evergreen shrub. It has larger flowers than the common Bush Anemone and will do well in sun or shade.
Sea Holly/Eryngium - Sea Holly is a striking plant just made for that hot, sun baked spot. Needing full sun, very drought tolerant, and thriving on neglect, these plants are perfect for xeriscaping.
Potentilla-Potentilla is one of the most common, and easiest shrubs to grow. It starts blooming in late spring and continues through autumn, bearing cheery yellow, orange, red, or white flowers that look like single roses (which attract butterflies). It has attractively divided foliage
Black Lace Elderberry - a shrub that offers purple-black foliage that has a wonderful lacy texture. It's a fast grower and, once established, is essentially carefree.
Top Trees and Shrubs for Fall Color One of my very favorite shrubs (small trees?) I have the cultivar "Grace" and she has blue-green leaves that start out plummy-purple and turn purple, orange, hot pink and red in the fall. To say nothing of the wonderful "flowers" that look like wisps of smokey haze above the foliage. LOVE this one.
