Cold Hardy Avocado Trees are the Perfect Patio Plant, growing indoors or out. They reportedly withstand temperatures down to 18F. In colder states, you can bring them in for the winter where they will continue to grow and produce fruit. Just place them near a sunny window and they'll become your favorite houseplant. You get a lot of Avocados to eat and share. A commercial orchard tree can produce 1,200 avocados annually. Even compact patio trees can produce a hefty harvest. This Cold Hardy variety is the most popular variety because they are heavy producers... easily grown… and produce delicious fruit. Not only do you get a lot of fruit... but the Cold Hardy Avocado variety gives you avocados that are up to 25% larger. Not only that, but Cold Hardy avocados are black... which are said to be much healthier than typical green ones. You'll pick from April to October... that means you'll enjoy fresh avocados for half the year. You'll be amazed at how much flavor tree ripened avocados have. Supermarket avocados are picked when they are hard and green… then cooled until you buy them. They still have weeks or months until ripening. Last summer I took my eldest son on a mission trip to El Salvador. He ate sliced avocados with almost every meal. He loved them. When we got back to the states he wouldn't touch them. I asked friends who grew up in Costa Rica if there was a different way I should prepare them for my son. They said that US supermarket avocados have no flavor and they won't buy them. They only eat ones that are tree ripened, because there is such a huge difference in taste. Avocados are a Nutritional Super-food. It's the only fruit that has monounsaturated fat. This is the good fat that is reported to boost your good cholesterol (HDL) and lower bad cholesterol (LDL). Avocados are high in vitamin C and extremely high in fiber and protein. If you grow your tree in a container, it will stay about 5-7 feet tall. Small enough to move indoors and big enough to give you a lot of fruit. Trees planted outdoors grow from 20-30 feet tall. Cold Hardy Avocados are self-pollinating, meaning only one tree is needed to produce fruit. However, you will get heavier production with a second tree as a cross pollinator. Our Cold Hardy Avocado trees are grafted and grown to quickly produce fruit indoors or out. Beware of Haas Avocado trees that are grown from seed, (rather than being grafted). They may look pretty, but will likely never produce fruit. Fast Growing Trees Nursery sends you the highest quality avocado trees, ready to produce abundantly.

The Golden Tortoise Beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata) by Douglas Clark, weeklysciencequiz: This tiny North American beetle (5 - 7mm) feeds on morning glory leaves. Its brilliant gold color is an optical illusion - the outer cuticle is transparent and reflects light through a layer of liquid overlying the next layer of cuticle. The beetles change color depending on the availability of the liquid layer which they control through microscopic valves under their shell... #Golden_Tortoise_Beetle
