A dash of bright blue was added to the otherwise no-makeup look as a modern way of referencing Boy George and Steve Strange.
Mary Katrantzou’s collection was a kaleidoscope of colors and prints, so the makeup look was kept clean, save for clumped blue lashes that Pieroni called “slightly retro with a doll-like feel.” She applied MAC acrylic paint only on lashes that spanned the width of the iris for an open-eye effect.
“The look is very downtown–it’s the East Village girl who’s been out all night,” says François Nars who created the look for the show. The blue eyeshadow (try Nars’ Outremer Single Eyeshadow) was strategically placed to look as if half of it had been wiped off.
To give the models a “slightly punk” edge, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni lined eyes with MAC’s Marine Ultra Chromagraphic Pencil and then buffed it into roots and over the lashes, giving them a blue tint.
Makeup artist Peter Phillips told WWD that the cobalt blue glitter liner was meant to express the Dries Van Noten girl’s eccentricity and to serve as an accessory.

From brick red to the Goth-girl black-red at Emanuel Ungaro, moody lip shades were a big hit on the fall runways—and we're obsessed. The look is super-fresh this season, paired with tousled waves and a face that’s otherwise essentially glowing and spare. Finish your mouth with a bit of balm for a hint of shine that prevents the look from being too literally Morticia Addams.
