"Forget your personal tragedy. We are all bitched from the start and you especially have to be hurt like hell before you can write seriously. But when you get the damned hurt use it—don’t cheat with it. Be as faithful to it as a scientist—but don’t think anything is of any importance because it happens to you or anyone belonging to you." ~ Ernest Hemingway, in a letter to F. Scott Fitzgerald

Ernest Hemingway is a genius and I have always loved his work. I, myself am a sappy love poet when I am inspired to write. The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting you are special too. Never let anyone pull you so far away from you, yourself and what is important in your life; you lose who you are completely. I am living proof life is so much easier to lose track of than gain control; he sends that message quite frequently in his work.

George Karge • Author Ernest Hemingway admiring his Mirror Image, bare-chested & sporting boxing gloves - 1943
Ernest Hemingway wasn’t a boxer so much as he was a “boxer”… a legend in his own mind, a romantic. Hemingway’s friend and sometime sparring partner, novelist Morley Callaghan tells it this way: “we were two amateur boxers. The difference between us was that he had given time and imagination to boxing; I had actually worked out a lot with good fast college boxers.”

The story goes that Hemingway made the acquaintance of a sea captain who owned an unusual six-toed tomcat. Upon his departure from Key West, the captain presented the cat to Hemingway.
