April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Look for ways that you can speak out against sexual violence against anyone.

Watch your words. Be careful with your actions... Even when you're angry. Anger is never an excuse to be cruel.

Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Awareness

Stay out of other people’s drama and don’t needlessly create your own. Don’t spew hostile words at someone who spews them at you. Keep your composure and replace the stink of confrontation with the fragrance of resolution. The louder the opposition wants to yell, and the more drama they want to stir, the calmer and more confidently you need to think and speak. Don’t let them get to you.

#SAAM Sexual Assault Awareness Month Are you a victim or a survivor? Something no one wants to talk about. But we need to. Education is important. Keep our children safe

PTSD and guilt commonly co-occur. People who have experienced traumatic events may experience something called trauma-related guilt. It refers to the unpleasant feeling of regret stemming from the belief that you could or should have done something different at the time a traumatic event occurred. For example, an abused person may regret and feel responsible of the 'offense' that is taken. A rape survivor may feel guilty about not fighting back at the time of the assault.

Believe it or not, lots of people don't know this and that's a BIG problem: It is a serious problem when teens in Steubenville stand by while a girl is raped because they had no idea it was rape. There's a serious problem when Yale decides to rename rapes on their campus as "nonconsensual sex" so they don't sound so bad and thinks a written reprimand is a good enough punishment. In a country where 1 in 5 women is sexually assaulted, this has got to stop.

aftermath. of. abuse.

... and that means Im not going to feel sorry for them either - my first instinct was to protect someone vulnerable and that often meant mistaking brooding and silence for sensitivity

You can't feed the homeless in Philadelphia. $150 fine if you do... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????This is so not ok!!!

Yet be responsible for our treatment and have people that love us enough to point out, in the right way, something is wrong... We have learned to suffer severe emotional pain over the years and what outwardly seems extreme to you might seem like MILD depression to us. Meaning point it out, the right way (kindly), before it gets worse !

After two+ years, I've finally realized this. It's a shame that the same person who freaked out when it happened to them, has done the same thing. What's one hour a month to see an old friend or three seconds to respond to a text message.

Support and spread sexual assault awareness (and prevention)

Oh sooo stinkin true I only have a handful of close friends and that's enough for me!
