Re-rooting Tutorial from The Thinking Doll. Note from Sarah Sequins: This is the way I learned to re-root back in 2000. No icky sticky glue needed! I have since adapted the technique a little, but this is a perfect place to start.

Exactly! And if you go down through the holes in the scalp instead of up through the neck, you don't spend as much time stabbing around, trying to get the needle to come out in the right place. I re-rooted a whole MH head and only stabbed myself once.

It's a little more painstaking to keep restringing the needle, but it definitely saves some pricked fingers that way! Lol! I prick and stab my fingers enough doing other things, it's not needed for something as avoidable as rerooting a doll's hair! :D

I have wanted to try this technique for a long time, do you used the same holes in the dolls head or for different hair styles do you make more holes?

  • Ali Marceau

Depending on the style, you can just use the existing holes in the dolls head(and style later). It's also really easy to make new holes if your style needs to as well. :)

What Ali said, exactly! Some people make new holes with a thumbtack. I grip a really thick embroidery needle in my pliers and stab new holes in the scalp where I need them.
