Nellie Bly - female journalist -- had herself committed to a lunatic asylum in the early 1900's to uncover the poor conditions and mistreatment of the women there. Then traveled around the world to beat Jules Verne's fictitious record of 80 days -- did it in 72 days, unchaperoned!
On this Day in History, April 9, 1959: NASA introduced America’s first astronauts who became known as the Original Seven (pictured) and were chosen for the country’s first space program "Project Mercury"
Black people did not "come to this country seeking a better life." They were kidnapped from their homes in Africa, dragged in chains and loaded onto slave ships--treated not like human beings but like things, commodities to be traded and used to enrich others. Tens of millions of enslaved Africans died before even reaching America, so terrible were the conditions on the slave ships. Those who survived the trip and were then sold to plantation owners.Shameful part of our USA history
