In Brazil, Balki was Brazilian, specifically from the state of Minas Gerais. The show was called Primo Cruzado (Cousin Cruzado, where "cruzado" was the name of Brazilian currency from that time). Even today the public in that country is mostly unaware of the show's and Balki's original backgrounds.
