On this day (September 8) in 2001, Mohammad Ashraful of Bangladesh became the youngest man to make a Test century; he did it against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. It was the day before Ashraful's 17th birthday, according to some sources, and 63 days after it, according to others; either way, he broke the long-standing record for the youngest centurion, set by Mushtaq Mohammad when he made 101 for Pakistan against India in 1960-61 (17 years, 82 days).

This is a mode of dismissal named after the great Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad, who was the first in the history of the Gentleman's game to do it. Generally speaking, it's not considered 'cricket' to 'Mankad' a batsman. Uh-oh, now we need to explain the meaning of the term 'just not cricket' to you. No sweat, we'll get to that, too.
