Oregon Swallowtail (Papilio Oregonius) Butterfly. Two years ago I found one of these beauties by the side of the road while I was out for a walk. It had a badly damaged left wing and couldn't fly anymore, so I took in home and laid it down in my garden, under the lettuce leaves.
Red crackers are a medium-sized brush-footed butterfly species of the genus Hamadryas. Their common name is due to the unusual way that males produce a "cracking" sound as part of their territorial displays. This genus of butterflies are found throughout South America to Arizona, and at least nine species can be found in Costa Rica. See wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamadryas_(butterfly
