A.J. Jacobs - The Know-It-All

The Know It All by A.J. Jacobs DESCRIPTION: Part memoir, part Cliff's Notes to every topic under the sun, The Know-It-All is about the year I spent reading the Encyclopaedia Britannica from A to Z (or, more precisely, from a-ak to zywiec). All forty-four million words of it.
Adult Non-fiction #Book Review: The Know-It-All, One Man's Humble Quest To Become the Smartest Person in the World, by A.J. Jacobs #books #reading @ thesceniclife.com - "Human guinea pig" AJ Jacobs spends a year reading the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica, applying it to his own life, and seeking for an underlying moral.
This guy's hysterical, neurotic, and super smart. He reads the entire Encyclopedia Britannica in a year (33,000 pages) and lives to tell about it. But he cleverly integrates his personal life, obscure facts, and humorous competitive quests in this light memoir.
"The Know-It-All," by A.J. Jacobs. I just started this bad boy and find it very interesting. Jacobs' writing style is witty, a bit snarky and full of his own personal thoughts while embarking on reading the entire Encyclopedia Brittanica.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World - AJ Jacobs. I got this book from my sisters dad a few years ago, but I just recently got around to reading it. I enjoyed this book so much!
Intriguing idea for a year-of-life experiment....plus I learned a whole ton of random stuff vicariously through Jacobs' persistent reading of Britannica.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World - AJ Jacobs The question emerges: what is intelligence? A real question answered throughout a tale of a bunch of useless facts.
"The Know-It-All - One Man's Humble Quest To Become the Smartest Person in the World" by A.J. Jacobs | Self-proclaimed "human guinea pig," AJ Jacobs spends a year reading the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica, w/ results that are far more entertaining than I would have guessed. This is a really charming book & Jacob's voice is so clear & distinct that you feel the book as more of a conversation than a read.

From The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. One of my favorite books. " What is an aristocrat? A woman who is never sullied by vulgarity although she may be surrounded by it."
The Elegance of the Hedgehog - not an easy read. Starts off slow, but halfway through, you'll find yourself loving it. Worth reading twice as there are many messages.
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery - fiction, the story of how the lives of three unlikely kindred souls intertwined in Paris, a concierge, a pre-teen, an a wealthy Japanese man.

The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World One of the best books I have ever read.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World
A. J. Jacobs attempts to become the "smartest person in the world" by reading the entire Encyclopædia Britannica. A mix of shortened encyclopædia entries and Jacobs memoir is an intersting and humorous read.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World by A.J. Jacobs. This was book 25 for me in 2012. I'm aiming to read 50 books this year, so I'm halfway there! I really enjoyed this one. I guess I can relate to Jacobs a bit, and I love all the random facts, mixed in with his life during this project.
The Know-It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World: A. J. Jacobs Informative - and funny. Sort of.
the know it all by a.j. jacobs
Guest/author A.J. Jacobs (I have read his 'My Life as an Experiment' and thoroughly enjoyed) tests out dozens of 'health cures' and advises: short, intense interval training (today I ran HARD for 12 minutes with 30 second breaks throughout), squatting while we poop (whaaaa?), eat an apple or soup before supper, and swishing and spitting a mouthful of sports drink before exercise to fool the body into expecting energy without the calories... lets give it a try!

A.J. Jacobs - Drop Dead Healthy If you read this and try to follow the plan you will drive yourself crazy- there aren't enough hours in the day. If you just read the book you'll learn a lot and laugh a lot. Plus you might be inspired to adopt a few new habits that will make you just a tiny bit healthier.
A.J. Jacobs - Drop Dead Healthy: this was laugh-out-loud funny, and gave me way too many ideas to try to incorporate. I can't get the idea of a treadmill desk out of my mind, though...
Okay, so this book may have made me a little more neurotic than usual while I was reading it BUT it was an excellent book - hilarious plus I learned a lot! Drop Dead Healthy, A.J. Jacobs
Fitness magazine did a write up on this book in their April issue: "A.J. Jacob's goal in this funny memoir is to become the healthiest person in the world. The self-described "mushy, easily winded, moderately sickly blob" dove into two years' worth of exercise and diet experiments including the cave-man workout and 'chewdaism' (chewing food 100 times a mouthful." This book was funny, but I expected it to be extremely sarcastic. Instead, it was factual and I learned a lot about health.
Read everything this guy has written. He's witty, self-deprecating, and hilarious!
Saw this guy on GMA, think the book would be hillarious and informative.
Lots of great advice and a fun read!
To the bookstore!
I love AJ Jacobs

Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird is timeless! A must read for those who haven't yet . . My favorite book in high school I stole the book and just bought a new one last year for the anniversary of it's being published.
"As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, he is trash.” ― Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird #books #read #HarperLee
One of my favorite books. 52 years ago today, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was published. "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what." -Atticus Finch
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee. I fell in love with this book before reading it in high school!
To Kill A Mockingbird- My absolute favorite book of all time! I have read it at least 4 times a year since I was 12. Every year we go to Monroeville,Alabama (the actual town "Maycomb" is based on and the hometown of Harper Lee, who lived next door to Truman Capote, another Pulitzer Prize winner and is the inspiration for the character of Dill). Just walking into that old courthouse and seeing things just as they were when Atticus made his summing up speech thrills me every time.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, was also on my high school reading list, classic.
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is one of my all-time favorite books.
To Kill a Mockingbird.... worth reading over and over again!

One Day - David Nicholls - Good book, but only read it if you're prepared to bawl your eyes out. (Same goes for the movie.)
One Day by David Nicholls. I saw the movie adaptation and found it quite disappointing, but felt immediately that it was probably a better book than film. I was not mistaken. One Day is witty, insightful and gentle. The characters, even with their flaws, are enchanting. One Day is now one of my favourite novels. I will read it again and again.
One Day by David Nicholls. I fell in love with this book. The movie was good but does not do the book justice. Highly reccomend.

The Book Thief is the story of Liesel Meminger. Liesel is almost ten when she ends up in Molching with Hans and Rosa Hubermann, her new foster parents. It is 1939. In Nazi Germany. Through their eyes we see Hitler and Nazi Germany; we experience the atrocities and the small kindnesses. Zusak’s story is mostly about everyday things: hunger, pettiness, laughter, hope, cruelty and kindness. Loved it.
One of the best books ever.

Set during WWII in Germany about a little girl named Liesel. Clever and beautifully written. This is a book worth reading.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This is a story about a girl in WWII Germany who steals books before they can be burned and shares them with her neighbors and a Jewish man who is hidden in her basement. The story is narrated by Death and is appropriately dark, but manages to be uplifting at the same time. So far, my favorite book read in our book club....
The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak (Book Club Kit). It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery.
Steppenwolf for Young Adults presents its stage adaptation of "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. Chicago, IL. October 16, 2012 to November 11, 2012.
The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak - This story, narrated by death, tells of a girl living outside of Munich, in Nazi Germany, named Liesel Meminger. Liesel likes to steal books from Nazi book burnings, the mayor's library, or anywhere that they can be found. After learning to read, she shares her stolen stories with neighbours during bomb raids, as well as the Jewish man living in her basement.
