We did this this year for the first time. (My husband heard it on K-Love) and it was great! It forces you to think outside the box for the gifts.

We do Something you want, something you need, something to give, something to read. For the "give" portion, the kids get to choose an angel from the angel tree and pick out the gift.

We do this for Christmas and it works great! Clothing gift, learning gift, God gift (video, ornament for her tree, charm, book, etc.) and a toy that she really wants. The grandparents and aunts and uncles take care of everything else. It's great b/c she not overloaded with stuff shel'll be disinterested in in a month.
