Faulkner masters stream of consciousness literature in a way that allows the reader to get inside the heads of his characters and know their thoughts, emotions, and memories. It's like piecing together a puzzle of human consciousness to see the present more clearly. Fantastic. Worth Reading, William Faulkner, High School, Sound, Books Worth, Favorite, Classic

The Sound and the Fury, William Faulkner: 14 Colors of Hair The Sound and the Fury is widely considered to be one of Faulkner’s most difficult works — not least because it’s filled with multiple perspectives and time periods that shift with very little indication, so many that Faulkner originally imagined it as being printed in fourteen different colors to make the whole thing easier to parse.

U.S. The Sound and the Fury, 1929 // by William Faulkner. The novel has achieved great critical success and a prominent place among the greatest of American novels. It played a role in William Faulkner's receiving the 1949 Nobel Prize in Literature. The novel's appreciation has in large part been due to the technique of its construction, and Faulkner's ability to recreate the thought patterns of the human mind. It was an essential development in the stream-of-consciousness narrative technique.

William Faulkner. One of the most respected American authors of the twentieth century. From: http://postertext.com/blog/2012/01/05/a-writers-role-according-to-faulkner/
“Read, read, read. Read everything — trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out of the window.” — William Faulkner

"The Reivers": This is one of my favorite Faulkner books. Little read, but much revered by those who have, The Reviers is part of the saga encompassing Faulkner's favorite family, the McCaslins. A story within a story -- told to a boy by his grandfather -- The Reviers is the tale of Lucius and Boon Hogganbeck's trip to Memphis in Lucius's grandfather's brand new automobile. Boon, the family's tag-along servant, invites Lucius (not yet eleven) on a joyride while the rest of the family is gone, a…

50th Anniversary Edition of Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh | Between the Covers
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh: A mother of five, an acclaimed writer and a pioneering aviator, Lindbergh casts an unsentimental eye on the trappings of modernity that threaten to overwhelm us: the time-saving gadgets that complicate rather than simplify, the multiple commitments that take us from our families. And by recording her thoughts during a brief escape from everyday demands, she helps readers find a space for contemplation and creativity within their own lives.

I bet this inspired James Dickey to write "Deliverance"(novel) and "Sheep Child"(poem). Couldn't put this down once it got rolling. Reminds me of movie "Pulp Fiction" in how we're forced to process events. I see our proxy on the moral high ground in "Pulp Fiction" as being Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) or possibly Butch (Bruce Willis). Here it's Ratcliff and Mrs. Littlejohn, who in turn represent the higher values and perceptions of the town.

Just kids by Patti Smith One of my favorite books of the last few years, maybe ever. Smith’s memoir is about falling in love — with a man, with New York, with her adult self — and will make you long for a New York that you never knew.
An artist and musician recounts her romance, lifetime friendship and shared love of art with Robert Mapplethorpe, in an illustrated memoir that includes a colorful cast of characters, including Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Andy Warhol, William S. Burroughs and more. Reprint. A best-selling book. 75,000 first printing.
#42/65 Just Kids, by Patti Smith | Smith's memoir is about falling in love - with a man, with New York, with her adult self - and will make you long for a New York that you never knew. | 65 Books You Need To Read In Your 20s
Just Kids, by Patti Smith Smith’s memoir is about falling in love — with a man, with New York, with her adult self — and will make you long for a New York that you never knew.
Winner of the National Book Award, this memoir by poet, singer, and lyricist Patti Smith focuses on her abiding friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Their early years together have the feel of childhood fantasy - simultaneously innocent and reckless. It's a hauntingly bittersweet account of the time they spent making art, possessing little, and wanting for nothing.
