Amazon.com: William Shakespeare: Books, Biography, Blog, Audiobooks, Kindle ||| William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in April 1564, and his birth is traditionally celebrated on April 23. The facts of his life, known from surviving documents, are sparse. He was one of eight children born to John Shakespeare, a merchant of some standing in his community. William probably went to the King's New School in Stratford, but he had no university education.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare ~ 197 Plays, Poems & Sonnets

With Ireland recently voting in favour of marriage equality in a national referendum, 37 of 50 states having legalized same-sex marriage, and other countries like Canada having legalized same-sex marriage as far back as 2005, it seems inevitable that marriage equality will be recognized in every civilized country before 2020. There remains, however, staunch opposition to marriage equality, leading Christian organizations to spend money on anti-marriage equality campaigns rather than feeding the hungry or providing shelter for the homeless (I guess since Jesus there would always be poor people, some Christians took that to mean ‘spend your money on better things’). What is interesting about the marriage equality debate is that when looking through the canon of classic literature, it becomes clear that defining marriage outside of the corporeal realm has been an argument that almost every titan of the English language has adopted. When one is reading John Donne’s ‘Valediction Forbidding Mourning, William Shakespeare’s sonnets, or John Milton’s Doctrine and the Discipline of Divorce, it becomes clear that arguments conducive to marriage equality have been put forward for centuries by some of the most astute and pious minds in the English-speaking world.

William Shakespeare, the Puppet? This illustration was done for Bill Cigliano, who wrote an article about Shakespeare's Plays, in which he speculates on the possibility that Shakespeare's plays were insinuated by other authors. | I do not share Mr. Cigliano's hypothesis.

William Shakespeare age 24

Said to be a portrait of -- William Shakespeare, age 24, 1588. Artist unknown??. Interestingly, one of the most famous portrait of Shakespeare, which has been used for centuries in literature of all sort, is actually a fake, and was made from a theatre mask apparently during his time or after. Boston University spent years of research trying to uncover the mystery of what this man actually looked like, but yet to be confirmed.

No high school English curriculum is complete without a mandatory dose of William Shakespeare. As contemporary speakers of the English language, however, they might be interested to learn how much the Bard of Avon had in common with the generations that popularized the acronyms LOL and OMG and reinvented the 1940s slang term “hipster.” Endlessly imaginative and not overly concerned with grammatical convention, Shakespeare’s scripts contain over 2200 never-before-seen words. Here are 20 examples.
