Roots. The characters from the mini-series were firmly planted in my imagination by the time I read the book. It made everything so much more vivid in my mind. Alex Haley was the key note speaker at my sister, Donna's, junior high school graduation.

A Sweeping Family Saga - "The Thorn Birds" by Colleen McCullough- This is one of my all-time favorites. Also loved the TV mini series with Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward.
The Thorn Birds - Colleen McCullough I was raised Catholic and this book was SHOCKING! Much too adult for me to be reading so young.
“And gradually his memory slipped a little, as memories do, even those with so much love attached to them; as if there is an unconscious healing process within the mind which mends up in spite of our desperate determination never to forget.” ― Colleen McCullough, The Thorn Birds “There are no ambitions noble enough to justify breaking someone's heart. ” ― Colleen McCullough, The Thorn Birds
THE THORN BIRDS ~ what a wonderful saga. I couldn't put the book down. I later loved the TV series made from the book.
The Thorn Birds, the book was published in 1977 the mini series aired in 1983. Another book I would not have read if it hadn't been turned into a TV mini series.
Colleen McCullough The Thorn Birds My personal paperback has been read so many times that the thing has fallen apart! One of my first faves.
Great! It's also on my list of favorite movies (actually a mini-series). Intense love.

Shōgun is an American television miniseries based on the international bestselling novel of the same name by James Clavell, who also was the Executive Producer of the mini series
Shogun (Complete Mini-Series) (DVD)--What better way to escape from the onslaught of so-called reality television than to sail away with Richard Chamberlain to "the Japans" for a little samurai action and some discreet "pillowing"? From the golden age of the miniseries comes this television benchmark, the 10-hour, Golden Globe-winning saga based on James Clavell's bestselling epic.
Shogun (1980) with Richard Chamberlain and the late, great Toshiro Mifune, was longer than a movie - a TV miniseries. I thought the acting was very good and the costumes and action and photography also great. A very well done "movie."

Shogun, the TV miniseries. Me and my Mum watched this together. I think we both had the hots for Richard Chamberlain.
With Richard Chamberlain, Toshirô Mifune, Yôko Shimada, Furankî Sakai. A English navigator becomes both a player and pawn in the complex political games in feudal Japan.
Shogun (1980) Full of action and drama, this critically acclaimed TV miniseries follows the adventures of the English navigator Blackthorne (Richard Chamberlain), who survives a devastating shipwreck that lands him in the middle of a political power struggle in feudal Japan. Blackthorne observes as the aspiring Shogun, Lord Toranaga (Toshirô Mifune), and the Emperor war over the title in this Emmy-winning adaptation of James Clavell's best-selling novel.

North and South I love reading this book. It was definitely better than the TV series from the 80s but to me Patrick Swayze will always be Orry Main. <3
North and South, premiered as a miniseries on tv in the 80's. Tons of famous faces, I love the love story and George and Ory and their struggle to remain friends while fighting on opposites sides of the war.
North & South - read the books by John Jakes This was the first time I saw Patrick Swayze on tv <3
North and South (TV miniseries) - The saga tells the story of the friendship between Orry Main (Patrick Swayze) and George Hazard (James Read), who become best friends while attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point but find themselves on opposite sides of the war. The slave-owning Mains and the steel producing Hazards lives reflect the differences and the divisions between North and South that eventually led to the Civil War.

This the first week of Oct in 1978, lots of TV sets were tune to NBC during prime time to watch the new mini series, Centennial - it ran 12 weeks. Mini series were still new - it had only been in 1976 we saw the first one, Rich Man Poor Man.
Centennial, one of the best tv series I have ever seen........tells the story from 1800 to mid 1900 (mostly from mid 1800) and follows the settlers that build the town of Centennial and their ancestors.

This acclaimed miniseries traces the epic history of the town of Centennial, Colo., from its 1795 birth through modern times, covering the early settlers, the political intrigues through the years and the lives and loves of various town residents. The star-studded cast includes Richard Chamberlain, Lynn Redgrave, Timothy Dalton, Sally Kellerman, Andy Griffith, Richard Crenna, Mark Harmon, Gregory Harrison, Raymond Burr and Sharon Gless.
Centennial Mini Series.... Love this series, can watch it over and over and over.
1978 TV Serie Centennial. I was glued to the TV with my parents when this was on. The main character Pasquinel (Robert Conrad) sigh.......! Centennial, largely concentrates on various memorable frontiersmen, trappers, Indians, ranchers, cowboys, and farmers from long ago. Richard Chamberlain shines as the pioneer Alexander McKeag, Robert Conrad does some of his best work as French-Canadian Pasquinel, and performances by Alex Karras, Chad Everett, Sally Kellerman, Raymond Burr, Richard Crenna, David Janssen, and Dennis Weaver effectively add to a tapestry of adventure, tragedy, violence, and dubious Western progress.
My all time favorite TV movie series!!
As my favorite Bronte novel, this mini-series is just so much better due to the fact that Timothy Dalton is Mr. Rochester. Timothy Dalton is still good looking, but this is Timothy Dalton before I was born, so he is even more good looking! I digress, this adaptation is wonderful. It follows the book pretty closely, and there is a lot of emotion throughout!

Jane Eyre (1983) The story of Jane Eyre, the plain quakerish governess is told from her childhood until she arrives at Thornfield Hall to tutor the young Adele. She finds herself intrigued by and attracted to Thornfield's owner, the dark, sardonic (natch) Mr. Rochester. But a dread secret resides in Thornfield Hall. Zelah Clarke, Timothy Dalton, Carol Gillies...16a
Jane Eyre with Timothy Dalton. Timothy Dalton is WAY too gorgeous to play Rochester, but all the same this is in my opinion his best acting performance. He channels Rochester's passion and just scorches the screen. This is the best screen adaptation of Jane Eyre hands down...the most faithful to the book, best cast and best production standards. Can't say enough good about it.
Jane Eyre (1983 BBC) starring Timothy Dalton as Mr. Rochester, and Zelah Clarke as Jane Eyre. I love Michael Fassbender and Toby Stephens, but DALTON is the only Mr. Rochester for me.
Jane Eyre, 1983 - My favorite version. <3 -- This is closest to the book ever done. - Kre

This is another classic for the children of the '80s:) - Four Vietnam vets, framed for a crime they didn't commit, help the innocent while on the run from the military.
"The A Team" (1987)- A team of ex-special forces soldiers on the run from the military police (even though they didn't really commit the crime for which they'd been imprisoned) leaves a trail of explosions in its wake. But Hannibal, Faceman, B.A. and Murdock always stop to help the little guy against some corrupt local bigwig before escaping the military police once again. Teens were attracted to watching this television show because it was filled with action and excitement.
