An all time classic image. Simply referred to as "Afghan Girl", this image was shot by Steve McCurry in a refugee camp and soon landed the National Geographic cover 1985. Her haunted and haunting eyes sear through you. She had never been photographed before, and never again after this picture until 17 years later when they found her again in Afghanistan.

Sharbat Gula (Afghan Girl): The most recognized photograph in the history of National Geographic Channel with revealing a refugee’s life. The portrait by Steve McCurry of a girl with piercing green eyes itself told a story. She was twelve years old in this photo. Imagine what those beautiful eyes have witnessed.

Rated one of the World’s Most Famous Photos "Afghan Girl", shot by National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry. Sharbat Gula was one of the students in an informal school within the refugee camp; McCurry, rarely given the opportunity to photograph Afghan women, seized the opportunity and captured her image. She was approximately 12 years old at the time. She made it on the cover of National Geographic the next year, and her identity was discovered in 1992. Source: nationalgeographic.com
